Oroquieta kids, Tangub teens rule 1st Masonic District Chess Tournament
Davao City—The kids from Oroquieta City and kids from Tangub City, both in the province of Misamis Occidental, were the big winners in the 1st Masonic District Chess Tournament on April 25, 2023, at Function Hall 1, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental.

Arena Grandmaster Rey Urbiztondo, the organizer of the tournament and incumbent DDGM of Masonic District RX Misamis Occidental said a total of 100 players in 3 categories all over the province of Misamis Occidental joined the tournament.

 Sponsored by  Misamis Occidental Governor  VW Henry Sevilla Oaminal a Past District Deputy Grand Master and Hiram Awardee, a Mason supporter.

Urbiztondo said Oaminal, a three-term congressman and former deputy speaker of the house, sponsored the event since he wanted to promote chess in the province.

He revealed the kiddies 12 years old and under were dominated by Oroquieta, while Tangub dominated the juniors 17 yrs and under, and for the seniors, the top 3 were won by Ozamiz players. 

The veteran chess player and organizers said his tournament was very successful, with the players wishing for another tourney. 

He added that the Masonic District is supporting the sports programs of the Governor, with Chess as the focus! 

Moreover, Urbiztondo said his next chess projects are national championships with the possible presence of Grand Master Eugene Torre. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
