60th IB commander Lt. Colonel Merril Sumalinog said his troops were able to recover ten AK 47 Rifles, seven M16 Rifles, Ultimax Light Machine Gun, M14 Rifle, an M79 Grenade Launcher, Garand Rifle, and an M16 Rifle with incomplete parts.
He said an operation was launched after a former communist terrorist rebel Alias Bolo revealed the existence and location of the arms cache hidden in the area.
Meanwhile, another New People’s Army (NPA) group operating in Davao de Oro collapsed following the surrender of their leader and members to the same unit in Davao del Norte on March 31.
The military identified the surrenders as Maximo Catarata alias Datu Makatindog, the secretary of Guerilla Front (GF) 3.Makatindog’s son Renard Galos Catarata alias SM, the commanding officer of said GF3 along with 12 of his members surrendered in Laak, Davao de Oro on February 26.
Since the surrender of these leaders, 60th IB recorded a total of 20 members of GF 3 and 48 recovered guns.
Major General Nolasco A Mempin, Commander of 10th Infantry Division lauded his troops for their relentless efforts in taking all the hidden firearms of the Communist Terrorist Group in their area of operations.
“Following the dismantling of Guerilla Front 3, Agila Division will continue to dash towards the finish line as we are now nearing the total eradication of the communist insurgency here in our area of responsibility,” Mempin said.
The dismantling of GF 3 was officially declared by the military and police following the parameters of the AFP-PNP Joint Letter Directive Number 3 on April 12, 2022.
