Go questions low DHSUD budget, fund utilization
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go questioned the relatively small allocation for housing in the proposed 2027 national budget, while also raising concerns over the low utilization of previously approved funds by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).

He noted that DHSUD’s obligation rate was only 46.9% in 2025 and 29% in 2026, and urged the agency to improve fund utilization before seeking additional appropriations.

“Kumbaga sa cake, icing lang siguro, wala pa,” Go said, referring to the relatively small housing budget.

DHSUD officials said they expect the utilization of the continuing 2025 budget to reach around 84% to 85% by the end of 2026, while utilization of the 2026 allocation for the expanded 4PH Program had reached 53%.

Go also sought updates on the National Housing Authority’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program, particularly aid for families affected by fires and floods.

He likewise raised unfinished government housing projects in Davao Oriental and urged the NHA to assess whether these could still be completed and occupied. Demograpiko

Go expressed support for the DHSUD budget but called for stronger coordination with local governments and the private sector to speed up housing projects and assistance programs.
