Illegal drugs worth about P45,000 were found hidden inside bananas placed on top of the piled used tires at the Davao City Jail-annex, Thursday ( Jan. 12) afternoon.
A report from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) 11 revealed it was the jail duty searcher who found the five pieces of sachets of shabu inserted inside the bananas, then immediately reported the matter to the Searching Team.
The report further indicated that each of the shabu-containing sachet was wrapped with plastic straw and tape.
Investigations are ongoing to determine who left the bananas and who are supposed to receive it, the BJMP in a statement said.
The BJMP also said security measures are being beefed up in the wake of the illegal drug smuggling activities inside the jail.
