NPA leader, wife slain in Misamis Oriental clash
The high-ranking leader and allegedly top extortionist and his wife were killed in a firefight in Barangay Odiongan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental on Friday (Feb 18).

In a report from Philippine Army’s 402nd Infantry Brigade Saturday , the slain NPA rebel was identified as Jelan Pinakilid y Binongcasan also known as Baking and his wife Darling Pinakilid y Bago.

Jelan was a former Secretary of Guerilla Front 4A while his wife is a medic .

The couple was leading five armed rebels when the military engaged them.

Accordingly, the group were conducting extortion activities and imposing permits to campaign and permit to win to candidates of the May 9 elections.

The government troops were able to recover in the encounter site a Caliber 45 pistol, live ammunition, hand grenade, and personal belongings.

Jelan was facing multiple warrants of arrest for murder, frustrated murder, and rebellion.

Brigadier General Adonis Ariel Orio, commander of 402nd IB encouraged 

all the remaining leaders and members of the communist terrorist group to avoid the same fate by availing the government’s Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and to peacefully return to their families.

“While we extend our sympathies to the families of those killed, let this be, once again a visible reminder that CPP-NPA’s ideology is no longer fighting for the rights of the people but instead, it promotes injustices and terrors that bring sufferings to our community,” he said.
