A report from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 said the fatality was identified as Renil L. Pagalan. He was among the five armed men encountered by the members of SAF troopers at around 10:45 p.m.

The two wounded cops are Police Chief Master Sergeant Mervin Alapan and Patrolman Leonardo Lawayan. They suffered minor injuries and are now undergoing medical treatment.
After the 30-minute firefight, police recovered a safety lever and fragments of the hand grenade; 2 liters of Tanduay bottle with gasoline (molotov improvised bomb); and other fired cartridges of used firearms.
The operating team also seized from the possession of Pagalan one
caliber 45 pistol , magazine, ammunitions, and four various identification cards with different addresses, and a cellular phone.
PRO 11 director Brigadier General Benjamin Silo Jr. assures the public that the PNP personnel are doing their job and maximizing its effort to ensure a peaceful and safe elections.
Silo in a previous press conference said the police are prepared to secure Davao Region, particularly those areas with known intense political rivalry, and a peaceful election on May 9.
PRO-11 earlier categorized 16 election hotspots in Davao Region as election areas of concerns (EACs).
Areas under the yellow category are Sta. Cruz, Matanao, Magsaysay, Malalag, Hagonoy and Padada in Davao del Sur, and New Corella and Monkayo in Davao de Oro.
Eight municipalities under the orange category or immediate areas of concern are Kiblawan in Davao del Sur, Lupon in Davao Oriental, and Mabini, Maco, Maragusan, Montevista, New Bataan and Pantukan in Davao de Oro.
