The fire, which broke at around 1: 06 p.m., spread quickly because most of the houses were made of light materials. Up to 1,200 houses were destroyed. Firefighters contained the fire at around 5:21 p.m.
The Davao City Fire District estimated the amount of damage at P9 million.
Investigation revealed the fire originated from the house of Ricky Gera Gantalao, 40 years old. Authorities are looking into what could have caused the fire.
The fire was reported at around 1:06 p.m and was declared under control at 2:59 p.m.
The Bureau of Fire Protection is still coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) as to the number of affected residents.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the fire as further investigation continues.
