City reopens Organic Farmers Market
DAVAO CITY- The Organic Farmers Market at Rizal Park, San Pedro Street here has reopened beginning April further supporting organic farmers in selling their products such as fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants.

In a report from the City Information Office, City Agriculturist Leo Brian Leuterio said that the two-day-a-week activity provides a space for organic farmers from the city to sell their products and help provide economic opportunities.

The farmers market is open every Thursday and Friday and is composed of 15 to 30 farmers and farm associations which are into organic farming.

Leuterio said these vendors have long practiced organic farming and have trained other farmers on organic farming techniques.

According to him, the farmers’ business activity in the area is not for free as they pay rent for the area. It is aligned with the directive of Mayor Sara Duterte to activate all the economic opportunities available for everybody.

Meanwhile, Leuterio said that the city through the committee on agriculture and food of the 19th City Council will be crafting an ordinance requiring all public markets in the city to have an organic section.

He said they are planning to start this initiative in Agdao Public Market.

The organic section will not just sell vegetables but also organic chicken and other meat products, he said.
