99 ex-NPA rebels in Davao de Oro get livelihood grant
DAVAO CITY- A total of 99 former members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Davao de Oro received a livelihood settlement grant (LSG) from the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Each beneficiary received P20,000 in a ceremony held on July 12 at the Capitol Building, Activity Hall in Davao de Oro.

DSWD 11 Regional Director Lawyer Vanessa B. Goc-ong said that the grant is a big  help for the former rebels  to start their lives anew together with their families.

Livelihoods such as sari-sari stores, vegetable gardening, vulcanizing, and hog raising were identified by the recipients, according to the DSWD.

Brigadier Jesus P Durante III, commander of the Philippine Army’s 1001st Brigade thanked former rebel returnees for turning themselves in and returning to the mainstream society where they can now avail of the various benefits offered by the government. 

Governor Dorothy Gonzaga who was represented by 2nd District Board Member Ruwina Gonzaga thanked the various government agencies for providing sustainable livelihood assistance for the friends rescued to help them live a normal life together with their families.

Gonzaga assures that her administration will continue to support the intervention programs and initiatives of the government forces in maintaining peace of said province.
