9 passengers mostly minors rescued from boat mishap in Sulu
DAVAO CITY- Nine passengers were rescued after their motorized boat capsized in the waters of Barangay Tandu Bato, Luuk, Sulu on Sunday (April 10).

Major General Ignatius Patrimonio, Commander of Joint Task Force (JTF)- Sulu and 11th Infantry Division in a statement on Monday said that nine rescued passengers are composed of two adults and seven minors.

Patrimonio said they immediately deployed a rescue unit following an information from a concerned fisherman of the capsized boat off thep waters of Barangay Tandu Bato in the municipality of Luuk, Sulu.

According to Patrimonio, the boat was overloaded as it headed towards Sitio Taindi of Barangay Kan Mindus of Luuk, Sulu, when it chanced upon a strong wave and current which caused it to capsize. 

The military rescued individuals for first aid treatment and medical management at the Luuk District Hospital. 

Currently, the rescued passengers are in good condition and we turned-over them to the Municipal Disaster Rescue Management Office (MDRMO) of Luuk, Sulu.

Patrimonio lauded the marines for their prompt response to the incident as he urged the marines to continue their task of saving lives and assisting the community in providing services. 

“I commend you for your quick response to the incident that saved the lives of our fellows,” he said.

This is a manifestation of professionalism and readiness of the military to take action when needed, Patrimonio said. 

“As we continue to march in unison in bringing lasting peace in the province of Sulu, I enjoin every marine to remain focused on your tasks. Our countrymen are counting for us especially in a situation where our expertise is needed most,” he said.
