Speaking to reporters during the AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Wednesday (Mar.30) Silo said, local candidates whose application for protective security were approved will be given a team of trained Police security personnel from the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) to secure them from any threats during the election period.
“So far we have received around 60. Siguro by tomorrow (Thursday, March 31) ma-approve na ni Chief PNP yon,” Silo said.
He said they will be providing at least two security personnel to local candidates requesting for security, as he also encouraged all chiefs of police to coordinate with local candidates if there are still any others who need protective security.
“We fast tract the approval of the request, kasi ang tingin namin kapag may nakadikit na police tayo sa kanila na nagprovide ng security, mas ma-sesecure natin sila at maging maganda po ang communication natin,” he said.
According to Silo, the requests were coming from candidates who are running for governors, representatives, mayors, vice mayors, and some are board members from areas where communist terrorist groups (CTGs) are present and areas with intense political rivalries in the previous elections.
