Major Francisco Garello Jr. , spokesman of Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division based in Cagayan de Oro City identified the slain NPA rebels as Carlisio D. Sumalinog, Jovilito D. Pontillas, Gary I. Juliana, and Jelly A. Sugnot.
The government forces recovered 16 high-powered firearms (HPFAs), consisting of seven M16 rifles, M203 Grenade Launcher, two R4 Carbine rifles, M653 rifle, three M1 Garand rifles, AK47 rifle, and an M14 rifle.
The soldiers were conducting direct action operations when they encountered about 30 rebels.
The exchange of gun fires lasted for almost two hours and the Special Forces got reinforcements from the 1004th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 and Talakag Municipal Police Station to secure the encounter site.
4th ID commander Major General Wilbur C. Mamawag, lauded the troops of 1st Special Force Battalion under TF Peacemaker, 403rd Btigade for pressing the fight, which brings us closer to our goal of defeating the communist terrorist group (CTG) before President Rodrigo Duterte’s term ends.
He said this accomplishment is a by-product of the convergence efforts of Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), which somehow embolden community folks to report on the presence of terrorist group in their locality.
