DAVAO CITY- Four inactive members of the dismantled sub-regional Guerilla Front Unit (SRGU) of the communist New People’s Army ( NPA) voluntarily surrendered to the military under 56th Infantry Battalion of the 1003rd Brigade in Talaingod town in Davao del Norte on Tuesday (July 12).

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesman of the 10th Infantry Division said the surrenderers Jimboy Mambay-an; Tata Mambay-an; Onti Landahay; and Inggo Ebudan yielded to the troops due to the relentless localized peace efforts by the military.

The rebel returnees also surendered an AK47 Rifle and an M1 Springfield Garand Rifle.

According to Tito, Jimboy and Tata were among the six remaining SRGU deleted personalities after its downfall on January 15, 2022, due to their inactive status from the Communist Terrorist Group.

SRGU was officially dismantled on April 25, 2022, Tito said.

10th ID Commander Major General Nolasco A Mempin commended the troops of 56IB and 1003rd Infantry Brigade for facilitating the peaceful surrender of the said former rebels, assuring them to continue to support those who saw greater good with the government.

“We will help them in their transition back to mainstream society with the hope of a peaceful and sustainable life,” Mempin said.

The province of Davao Del Norte was declared insurgency-free on June 13, 2022.
