Harold Quibete, the Parada Dabawenyo organizer, said during the I-Speak Media Forum on Thursday that the preparation is already 'close to perfection' and they are just hoping good weather during the event.
"This is the only Parada Dabawenyo nga naa ta'y 50 kabuok marching bands so they will all be joining us and this is purely a walking parade, wala'y mga vehicles, bicycles, electronic vehicles and so on (This is the only Parada Dabawenyo where we have around 50 marching bands, and they will all be joining us. A total of 404 marching contingents will join the event.
Quibete added that as agreed during coordination meeting on Wednesday, unique this year is the display of all the land, air, and water assets of the City Government of Davao along San Pedro St. (fronting San Pedro Cathedral) to the corner of Palma Gil St. and Roxas. It was also discussed how many units will be displayed. The assets will also be displayed within one lane from the clock-tower to the exit road beside the sangguniang Panlungsod Building.
"That is a nice way also for our visitors domestic and international
to have their photos taken together with the different assets, na dili nila basta-basta makita during regular days (That is also a nice way for our domestic and international visitors to have their photos taken with the different attractions that they do not usually see on regular days)," he said.
He said that the display will be from 6 am to 12 noon.
Quibete said the 89th Araw ng Dabaw parade will be a bit "serious but celebratory'.
The participants were encouraged to wear "semi formal- smart casual, except those who are wearing the sports attire for their representation.
Bands are also advised to play marching music.
"This time we will be there, we will be marching on the streets proud as Dabawenyos. So let's make it more patriotic in essence because we are proud as Dabawenyos-- we are disciplined, we are sturdy na amidst all the atrocities in life, we are still standing strong and firm as s Dabawenyos (This time, we will be thereβwe will be marching on the streets, proud as Dabawenyos. So letβs make it more patriotic in essence because we are proud as Dabawenyosβwe are disciplined, we are resilient, and amidst all the atrocities in life, we are still standing strong and firm as Dabawenyos)," he said.
Quibete said that participants may bring umbrella but as long as it is foldable and not those cane-type.
