PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the police are enhancing intelligence monitoring and coordinating with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other relevant agencies to assess the incidents.
Authorities are also reviewing reports involving a Filipino national allegedly connected to a drug shipment discovered aboard a private jet in Laos. The PNP said each case would be examined independently to determine whether the available evidence warrants further action under Philippine law.
To address possible cross-border drug trafficking, the PNP is coordinating with foreign law enforcement agencies through established channels. The effort aims to prevent criminal organizations from using the country as a destination or transit route for illegal drugs.
Nartatez stressed that the allegations must be supported by evidence and that due process must be respected.
The PNP reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening domestic and international cooperation against illegal drug trafficking and pursuing accountability in accordance with the law.
Authorities in Laos and Thailand recently reported separate seizures of large quantities of suspected methamphetamine, with both shipments allegedly linked to the Philippines.
In Laos, authorities reportedly confiscated 521 kilograms of suspected shabu, estimated to be worth ₱3.54 billion, from a private jet at Luang Prabang International Airport on October 1. A Filipino national was among those reportedly linked to the incident, although the circumstances of the individual's involvement remain subject to investigation.
In a separate operation on October 7, Thai authorities intercepted a fishing boat carrying 1,178 kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine in the Gulf of Thailand. Six crew members were arrested, and investigators reportedly received information that the illegal drugs were intended for delivery to the Philippines.
