Panaboan gets 3rd place in Davnorte national chessfest
DAVAO CITY---A 13-year-old teenager from Panabo City, Davao del Norte, got third place in the individual category of the 1st Congressman Alan "ALDU" R. Dujali Team Chess Championships held at Wharf Road, Brgy. San Pedro in Panabo City, Davao del Norte on Sunday (Oct. 30).

National Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca got cash, and a certificate as prizes in the event participated by some of the top chess players in the country.

Last October 24-27, Arca also got fifth place in the coveted 2022 Philippine National Juniors Chess Championship Grand Finals held in Malolos, Bulacan.

Arca scored four points after nine rounds in the tournament, participated by some of the top junior chess players in the country.

Arca won a certificate and cash prizes for his feat.

Last month, Arca won two trophies in the National Youth and Schools Chess Championships at the Dapitan City Cultural Complex in Zamboanga del Norte.

Arca, a Grade 8 student at Dasmarinas Integrated High School in Dasmarinas City, Cavite, won the blitz event in the Under-17 Open division with a final score of 7.5 points while playing under the direction of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr., National Coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas, and Class Advisor Melinda Calumaya.

Arca, who just won the standard competition in the Under-13 Open division, remarked, "I rented to play fast today and make some solid plays."

He continued, "I was playing chess. If opportunities arrive, great. If I lose, that's cool."

Arca defeated Jeremiah Luis Cruz in round one, National Master John Cyrus Borce in round two, Keith Adriane Ilar in round three, Ritchie James Abeleda in round four, National Master Robick Vohn Villa in round five, bye in round six, National Master Jerish John Velarde in round seven, Art Noblijas in round eight, and Janmyl Dilan Tisado in round nine to split the points.

On September 10, 2022, Arca also won the 14-and-under children's rapid chess tournament held at the Open Kitchen Foodhall on the second floor of the Rockwell Business Center on Sheridan Street in Mandaluyong City to celebrate GM/Lawyer Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr.'s 81st birthday.
