Santo Tomas Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said with the recent fund got by the local government, more residents in the town can benefit from the national government's programs.
Evangelista said the P7.5 million cash-for-work program aims to increase basic access to services of residents and provide them with livelihood opportunities while doing their part in the local governance.
The mayor said he thanked the DSWD for granting the Santo Tomas LGU of the said program, highlighting the agency's role in this time of public health emergency.
Through this program, the government’s presence is felt in Santo Tomas since many programs have provided the Tomasinos with loads of opportunities that directly benefit them, Evangelista said.

For her part, Municipal Administrator lawyer Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña said she assured that all constituents under Evangelista administration will access more cash aid to meet the needs of every family in this very trying time.

Municipal Area Coordinator Carlo Jack Pino said the beneficiaries will engage in canal desiltation, and tree planting as part of DSWD’s risk resiliency program under climate change adaptation.
The Tomasino beneficiaries will be coming from 19 villages of Santo Tomas, and each will receive P3, 960 in exchange for 10 days of work.
Pino said the program availed by the Evangelista administration was designed to help communities find a source of livelihood amid the pandemic, which displaced many workers.
Pino pointed out that the cash-for-work program only allows one person per qualified family as evaluated by the barangay captain.
He added that the barangay would determine the area where they will work, but this is mostly clean-up work mainly in the flood-prone areas.

Meanwhile, MSWDO-OIC Leilani Mae Rafol pointed out that the DSWD has always been the Santo Tomas LGU’s major partner in providing social services to mitigate the impact of the pandemic by delivering the needed services to the most vulnerable sector.
Rafol said the Evangelista administration has also been at the forefront to reduce COVID-19’s lingering consequences on the socio-economic well being of Tomasinos by delivering their needs and providing other forms of relief.
