Panaboan teen gets 7th place in star-studded Mandaluyong chessfest
DAVAO CITT----A 14-year-old chess star from Panabo City, Davao del Norte, won seventh place in the 2023 Balinas Open Rapid Chess Tournament, held at the Open Kitchen Foodhall on the second floor of the Rockwell Business Complex on Sheridan Street in Mandaluyong City on March 18.

National Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-AArca scored six points in the tournament, attended by 254 chess players, including two grandmasters, 1 WGM, nine International Masters, and many master-caliber players. 

Last March 5, after intense seven-round matches of the Vice Governor Athena Tolentino National Age Group Chess Championships in Tagaytay City, Arca won the premier open under-18 division.

Arca scored six points to rule the division and get bragging rights as the best 18-and-under chess player in the Philippines today.

On February 25, Arca also got sixth place in the tough KAMATYAS Invitational FIDE Rapid Chess Tournament at SM Sucat, Paranaque.

Arca finished sixth among the 150 competitors, consisting of some of the top chess players in the country. The teen chess wizard won P2,000 in cash and a medal.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
