DAVAO CITY — The 14-year-old student who carried out the shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato on Friday, September 18, was allegedly influenced by content from the “deep dark web,” according to Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
During a press briefing at Camp Crame on Saturday, Remulla said the initial investigation found no indication that the student had been bullied. Instead, he said internet content may have influenced the teenager to carry out the shooting.
Remulla also disclosed that the student had previously written a note indicating depression, which his parents discovered in April 2026. The family had spoken with the child at the time and believed that the situation had improved.
Following the incident, Remulla urged parents to regularly check their children's online activities and phones and to consistently communicate with them, emphasizing the need to take signs of depression seriously.
