The initiative, led by Executive Judge Rowena Adlawan, aims to strengthen the justice system through research and evidence-based policies. A Technical Working Group (TWG) at Ateneo de Davao University, with support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), reviewed justice-related studies from universities across the region.
Researchers identified key areas needing further study, including the long-term effectiveness of justice programs. The group also emphasized the need for more longitudinal research to measure results over time.
The RRDIC recognized that the DCJZ is already institutionalized through a local ordinance in Davao City. A Department of Economic Development (DepDev) representative also said the initiative aligns with the Davao Regional Priority Research Agenda 2023–2028, opening opportunities for government research funding. The TWG will meet again on September 2, 2026, at Ateneo de Davao University to finalize research proposals for possible regional funding and identify priorities for the next research agenda covering 2028–2034.
