Santo Tomas Municipal Information Officer Mart Sambalud in a statement Monday night (Jan. 17) said Barangay San Miguel has the most number of families affected with 800, followed by Kinamayan with 153, Salvacion 150 and Kimamon 35.
"Also in Barangay Salvacion, as of 5 PM Monday, Jan. 17, a total of 42 families were displaced due to flooding in Sitio New Panay," he said.
Sambalud said upon the instruction of Mayor Ernesto Evangelista, the families were advised for pre-emptive evacuation to ensure their safety.
He said the Santo Tomas government provided food and water provisions to the affected families. Family tents were also mounted to serve as their temporary shelter.
Sambalud said personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Responders Ni Tomas, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and Dangpanan Ni Tomas were working round the clock to monitor the situation on the ground and to provide the necessary intervention as thunderstorms continue to bring heavy rainfall in Davao del Norte.
"On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Evangelista will bring other offices such as the MHO, GSO, and the MEO to provide the much needed technical services in flood-prone barangays," he said.
