CAGAYAN DE ORO - Through sustained focused military operations, the 30th Infantry (Fight On) Battalion of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army, successfully engaged remaining members of the Communist Terrorist Group in the mountainous area of Brgy. San Roque, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on April 17, 2026.

The operation led to the neutralization of two New People’s Army members, including a high-ranking leader identified as Lucy Canda alias Luis/Madi, Finance Officer of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC), and Gia Miano alias Plender/Moning, a member of the Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG). Meanwhile, their team leader, Jun Requina Jr. alias Junjun, voluntarily surrendered to government troops.

This development followed a series of successive encounters against the same group, particularly on April 15, 2026, involving the 75th Infantry (Marauder) Battalion in Brgy. Bolhoon, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, which resulted in the neutralization of one (1) member and the recovery of several firearms.

Lieutenant Colonel Rey Vergel Annogui, Commanding Officer of the 30th Infantry Battalion, emphasized that despite continued attempts of the Communist Terrorist Group to regain strength and re-establish their mass base in previously influenced areas, communities are no longer receptive to their presence. He highlighted that the growing vigilance of residents and their timely reporting to authorities directly contributed to the successful conduct of operations.

Meanwhile, 4ID Commander Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr. lauded the troops for their relentless efforts and commended the community for their continued support, emphasizing that strong civilian cooperation remains vital in sustaining operational gains and achieving lasting peace.

Anayron also emphasized that the division is intensifying its focused military operations against the remaining eight armed members of the NPA in Caraga region. He further expressed confidence that, with continued collaboration with local government units, stakeholders and the civilian populace, the remaining armed members will soon be neutralized or encouraged to surrender, paving the way for lasting peace and development in the region.
