Sara together with other party mates specifically visited the municipalities of Dapa and Dinagat Island in Siargao. Surigao del Norte was badly hit by the recent super typhoon Odette.
In an interview live direct from Siargao over Sara All For You with co-host Tek Ocampo, Sara said the visit is aimed at checking the situation of the residents after the wreckage.
She also said helping the people rebuild their lives is not overnight.
“Helping the people is not only good for one day because rebuilding runs for years due to the impact of the devastation,” she said.
The city government of Davao also sent relief assistance to the affected residents in December last year.
Sara said aside from food, the residents really need building materials to rebuild their homes.
"I thank the private donors and Senator Bong Revilla for giving me the chance to visit again the area," Sara said.
Sara had visited the area sometime in December.
Mayor Maria Liza Resurreccion of Siargao in an interview with Sara All For You said they are slowly recovering from the calamity.
She thanked the national government agencies and non-government organizations for the help extended to the affected families.
However, she said considering the ongoing pandemic, the battle which the people is facing after the typhoon Odette is a bigger challenge.
“We thank mayor Sara and other officials for visiting us here. The relief assistance and their concern is a big boost to us,” she said. (BY JUDY QUIROS)
