P5.2-M worth of marijuana uprooted in Davao del Sur
Marijuana plants valued at P5.2 million were uprooted by combined elements of police and military in Davao del Sur, following a series of operations over the weekend.

Authorities cleared three plantation areas in Barangay Bulol Salu, Kiblawan of said province.

Operatives of Davao del Sur Provincial Office and Philippine Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion conducted the operations in Sitios Latnabag, Lamlikon, and Sitio Lamlango leading to the discovery of the illegal hemp planted in an estimated total land area of 5,800 square meters (sqm).

The operating teams were able to uproot 18,350 fully grown marijuana weeds planted in 3,000 sqm in Sitio Latnabag, 5,000 weeds planted in 1,800 sqm in Lamlikon, while 3,000 marijuana plants were also uprooted in Sitio Lamlango.

Some of the marijuana plants were destroyed during a ceremonial burning led by town Mayor Carl Jason Rama, while others have been turned over to Provincial Forensic Unit for qualitative examination.

According to Colonel Guisseppe Geralde, PNP director of Davao del Sur, in his message to  News Fort  that a case will be filed against the cultivator Lima Cansing.

The operation was part of the “Oplan Hurot”program of the police in Davao del Sur which aims to totally eradicate illegal drugs in the community as well as apprehend high-value target drug personalities.

Geralde said the successful operation was a result of extensive intelligence monitoring and case build-up with active support of other government agencies and civilian informants.
