In Koronadal, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at Gensan Drive in front of East West Bank, Barangay Zone, involving one public utility bus owned by Yellow Bus Lines Incorporated with body number 2108 and plate number MWB 216.
The said incident injured an unidentified male tricycle driver. The alleged perpetrator behind the incident is still being investigated by the authorities.
Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry Division in its report said the area of the incident was immediately cordoned while the victim was brought to the nearest hospital for medication. South Cotabato EOD and K9 Team were dispatched to conduct a clearing operation.
On the same day, another explosion transpired at a vacant lot in Barangay New Carmen, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.
No casualty was recorded in the said incident.
Brigadier General Pedro Balisi, Brigade Commander of 1st Mechanized Brigade said the security forces including the local government units are working hand in hand to manage the situation.
He said an investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the police to determine the perpetrators and motives behind the two incidents. The authorities ask civilians to remain calm as the security forces are doing everything to bring the suspects to justice.
6th ID acting commander Brigadier General Eduardo Gubat has directed all units under the Joint Area of Operation to intensify checkpoint operations and intelligence monitoring in coordination with their PNP counterpart.
"Acts like these that cause harm to innocent civilians are reprehensible, wrong, and evil. The bombing incident only shows that there are people who are ruthless that we need to be wary of,” Gubat said.
He said they will exert efforts so they can identify who are the perpetrators of these incidents and pursue proper actions according to law.
Gubat assured the residents that the government forces are committed to ensure the security and safety of the people in South- and South-Central Mindanao by conducting proactive operations targeting the terrorists and their armed elements.
