Marcos, Sara top University of Mindanao-IPO survey
DAVAO CITY- Presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and his running mate Sara Duterte led the survey conducted by the University of Mindanao Institute of Popular Opinion, the results of which were released Sunday (Jan. 2).

UM-IPO said 44. 61 percent of the respondents had Marcos as their preferred choice for president.

That poll was conducted on December 21 to 28, 2021 involving Filipino social media users from different regions of the Philippines relative to their preference for the two highest positions of the country.

The survey also intends to evaluate overall and per-island preference for these two top positions and to validate national survey results in the previous weeks.

Trailing him in the survey were Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo with 25.51 percent; Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso 14.73; Senators Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao (3.17 percent); and Panfilo Lacson 0.77 percent.

There were 10.10 respondents who were undecided.

Since the survey was done online as physical contact is still not allowed during the time of conduct of the survey, IPO relied heavily on online and targeted social media users who are targeted and identified via sponsored ads in two social media platforms of Meta (Facebook and Instagram).

Respondents were defined to be at least 18 years old, are targeted for contact within the defined geographical radius in each of the major islands of the Philippines, and have valid/active email addresses. Quality checks were also established to avoid possible online trolling, leaving a total of 1,199 respondents (at a 95% confidence level and +/-3% margin of error).

The survey also included further analysis of the possible bailiwicks which would contribute much to the overall preference of the Presidential candidates. When preference was categorized as to major islands, Marcos Jr. is the top Presidential choice among voters from Luzon (42.29%) followed by Robredo (26.88%) and Domagoso (17.39%).

The three candidates have strong bailiwicks in the Ilocandia, Bicol, and the National Capital Region/Manila area, respectively.

As for Mindanao voters, more than half (52.82%) prefers Marcos compared with other Presidential candidates, with Robredo (17.09%) and Domagoso (11.07%) occupying the second and third most preferable Presidents. Senator Pacquiao, who hails from General Santos City, has an overall 3.69% preference rating.

For the Visayan islands, Robredo was the top pick at 50.34%. Marcos Jr. came second (23.13%) and Domagoso at third (18.37%).

Meanwhile, Sara was the vice presidential pick of 52.65 percent of the respondents.

Trailing far behind were Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan at 26.54 percent; Dr. Willie Ong 11.13 percent; Senate President Vicente “Tito” So

Sotto 3rd (1.80 percent); Buhay party-list Rep. Jose “Lito” Atienza (0.17 percent).

Based on the IPO analysis from the survey it was found out that tandem vote is more likely in the May 2022 elections and regional bailiwicks could land political aspirants to these top positions.
