Davao City’s multi-million Library and Information Center opens March-April
The P40 million new state-of-the-art Library and Information Center of the Davao City government is expected to officially open by March or April this year.

“We invested so much of our public funds for the four storey library and all are excited for this child friendly library,” Sara said in her Sara All For You Thursday (Feb. 10) episode.

Invited to speak more about the building was Salome Enoc, the OIC City Librarian.

She said it is a modern library with a Café on the first floor;   an amphitheatre and informal reading room for kids and adults on the second floor; and information technology center and conference room on the fourth floor.

Also, an organic garden is found at the roof deck of the building. Enoc said the garden is aimed at educating the children the importance and love for urban container gardening.

She said an Inday Sara Wall will also be seen at the building. This area will also be filled with numerous books personally donated by Sara to the library for public reading.

“We are also adopting a hybrid library in which aside from books we also have online materials which are useful in this time of pandemic. Aside from traditional paper resources it also has electronic materials,” Sara said.

The new library is located at the former Central 911 Building along C. Bangoy Street, fronting Davao Light and Power Company.

It will be open for reading lovers from kids to seniors.

The old city library which is currently located at the third floor of the Sangguniang Panlungsod building got an international award as one of the Star Libraries. In 2019 it also won the  Malasakit Award given by the National Library. (By Judy Quiros)
