The statement was made after authorities arrested Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 21) the 34-year old suspect behind the bomb threats prompting the issuance of the city government of a public advisory which informed residents about the two bomb threats that were being investigated by the security cluster.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 said the heightened alert still remains and is undertaking all the pre-emptive measures to thwart any possible atrocities and criminalities.
Colonel Kirby John Kraft, chief of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said that a case for violation of Presidential Decree (PD) 1727, a law declaring as unlawful the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction and imposing penalties, has been filed against the suspect Wednesday afternoon.
The advisory stated that “Violent extremism is a scourge around the globe and Dabawenyos should, at all times, remain vigilant. On the other hand, threats may be politically motivated, particularly from people who have evil intent.”
The city government also urged the public to cooperate by giving immediate information about planned terror attacks and to report any suspicious activities to the Task Force Davao hotline numbers: Landline: 224-0911, Smart: (0999) 227 1111, and Globe: (0917) 131 4333.
Kraft confirmed that the motive behind the threat was revenge as the latter was blaming someone who filed a case against him.
Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) head Angel Sumagaysay meanwhile said the suspect left a threat letter in a car parked in front of the City Hall building, which alarmed the security forces and the city.
“Actually, it’s a threat letter. Pareho siya sa una nga letter pod ,last September. During sa custodial investigation, gi-admit naman ng suspek na siya ang naghimo sa duha ka letter,” Sumagaysay told reporters during AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing Wednesday morning.
Sumagaysay further assured the public that the security cluster is on top of the situation as law enforcers and security forces are on high alert to ensure public safety, he said.
Authorities continuously reminded the public to exercise the culture of security - volunteer, participate, remind and report, to thwart possible atrocities and prevent another fatal attack, similar to the Roxas Night Market bombing.
