This program is called Child Minding Center.
Mayor Sara Duterte featured the Child Minding Center in her Sara All For You Tuesday (Feb. 8) episode.
The Child Minding Center caters to children five years old and below of parents working in the local government.
“We take care of the children while their parents are working. This way, they can save from paying yayas at the same time they can earn” Sara said.
Josephine Bangkil, the head of the Child Minding Center said the program started in 1998 with children of government workers as beneficiaries. It is under the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO).
She said parents will leave their kids at the center the whole day and fetch them in the afternoon after work.
The intervention is free of charge although parents should take care of their children’s food.
While inside the center, Child Minding personnel will give the toddlers development activities such as storytelling, arts activities, singing, playing and the like.
Bangkil said the early childhood care program of the city is being replicated by some private companies.
The center is located beside the Almendras recreation center. It has two other branches in Calinan and Mintal, all of this city.
Sara said one big problem of working parents is where to leave their children while they work.
The Child Minding program of the city is the answer to their problem, Sara said. (BY JUDY QUIROS)
