DAVAO CITY-Olympic wushu sanda bronze medalist Mariane Mariano proved on June 2 that there is still some fuel left in her tank after winning a bronze medal in the 2022 Asian Sambo Championships in Jounieh, Lebanon.
Mariano took third place in the 59KG women’s combat sambo.
She earlier won a bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver medal in the 2019 SEA Games Philippines.
Pilipinas Sambo President Paolo Tancontian is very happy with the medal performance of Marianao, and he hoped his daughter could follow suit and win a medal as well in the +80KG women’s sport sambo.
Tancontian said Sydney Sy Tancontian is set to compete on June 4 around 5 in the afternoon.
Coming into her match, Tancontian is very confident since she won a bronze medal in the +87kg Women's Kurash on May 11 in the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
She also won a gold medal in Mongolia's 2019 Asian Juniors Sambo. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
