After 37 years, Pinays get 1st medal in SEA Games football
DAVAO CITY---After 37 years of waiting, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team finally won a medal again in the sport of football in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

On Saturday, the Philippine Women's football team beat  Myanmar, 2-1, to win the bronze medal in the tournament.

Filipino strikers Sarina Bolden and Quinley Quezada provided the winning goals for the Philippines in the 3rd and 76th minutes.

The last win the Philippines won a medal in the SEA Games was in 1985.

The win is sweet because of the Philippines' long medal drought and because the country won after scoring two in the late minute of the game after Myanmar took an early 1-0 lead.

The bronze finish is the second biggest achievement of the team this year.

In January this year, the team also got a slot to compete in the  FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 in Australia & New Zealand.

The Women's World Cup is the most significant international football competition globally, and getting a slot to compete is already considered a blessing. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
