Sydney Sy Tancontian seeks gold in 2022 Asian Sambo Championships
DAVAO CITY-After winning a silver medal in the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, Davaoeno Sambo Practioner Sydney Sy Tancontian hopes to win another medal in the 2022 Asian Sambo Championships slated June 1-4 in Jouneih, Lebanon.

Tancontian who won second place in the +87kg Women's Kurash on May 11 in the SEA Games will compete in the +80KG women’s sport sambo.

Winning a medal is high for Tancontian since she won the gold medal in the 2019 Asian Juniors Sambo in Mongolia.

Aside from Tancontian, Olympic wushu sanda bronze medalist Mariane Mariano will also compete in the tournament.

Mariano will compete in the  59KG women’s combat sambo.

She earlier won a bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver medal in the 2019 SEA Games Philippines.

Pilipinas Sambo President Paolo Tancontian is very confident of the chances of the two winning a medal in the international Sambo tournament.

Tancontian, the father of Sydney said her daughter is at the peak of her potential and has gained vast experiences from consecutive overseas competition amid the pandemic.

He said Marianao for her part is very hungry to win another medal for the Philippines. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
