On Monday, the Senate Committee on Finance heard the budget proposal from PSC Chairman Noli Eala.
Eala stated that P4.9 billion would be used to fund the PSTC's capital expenditure as well as the Philippines' participation in two significant multisport competitions, the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia and the Asian Games in China, as well as the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the World Combat Games, the World Beach Games, and the Asian Beach Games.
According to Eala, cash will also go into grassroots initiatives like Batang Pinoy and the Philippine National Games, grassroots initiatives run by the National Sports Development Council, research in sports science, and upkeep of the venues and facilities the organization manages.
The proposed budget represents a substantial increase over the P1.309 billion spent in 2021 and the P761.75 million already spent in 2022.
The proposed budget for 2023 is separate from the National Sports Development Fund, which the PSC receives in remittances from organizations like the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and the Philippine Racing Commission.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
