Cor Jesu, Ateneo rule DACS chess tourney
DAVAO CITY---The promising college chess players from Cor Jesu College in Digos City, Davao del Sur, and Ateneo de Davao University were the big winners in the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS) chess tournament college division last March 6–9.

The Cor Jesu chessers won the overall crown in the men's division by defeating the men's team of ADDU.

Cor Jesu's Charles John Fiel emerged as the champion on the individual ranking, followed by Renard Mamaril, Jasper Jay Erum, Jasper Seth Erum, and Seanne Louis Rutherlou Magallanes.

Veteran Dabawenyo chess player Jimmy Dano coaches the team.

The second-place team is ADDU, composed of Mark Lawrence Unday, Chris Maynard Ampon, Kurt John Placenta (team captain), Heric Galor, Gerald Camus, and coached by Renneh Mae Asilum and Caissa Jane Guevarra.

On the women's side, ADDU emerged as the champion after edging out Cor Jesu.

The champion team comprises Franz Kate Sustino, Sheena Cameros, Women National Master Blanche Ellyz Bongato, Florence Faith Guevarra (Team Captain) and daughter of lawyer Jong Guevarra Jr., a veteran chess player in the city and Karylle Failma. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
