Pilipinas Sambo President Paolo Tancontian said they are sending three of their best young male talent to the competition to be participated in by some of the top Sambo teams in the world.
Tancontian said the team to be coached by Davaoeno Ace Larida are comprised of Chino Sy Tancontian (-98 kg), Troy Estrella Legaspi (-71kg), and Janry Pamor (58kg).
"They are considered the young lions of Pilipinas Sambo," Tancontian told Newsfort.
He said his son Chino is the team captain and is confident he will do well in the tournament since he is a 2019 Seagames Sambo Gold Medalist and 2019 Asian Championships Bronze Medalist.
Sydney won the gold earlier in the +80KG women’s sport sambo event in the tournament participated in by some of the top Sambo practitioners in Asia.
The University of Santo Tomas Judo varsity beat Arailym Abenova of Kazakhstan to win the coveted gold in the senior division.
It is the second gold for Tancontian in the same event since she also won the gold in the 2019 Asian Juniors Sambo in Mongolia. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
