After Singapore, Sydney Sy Tancontian targets a medal in Turkey
Davao City—After her gold medal performance in the 2022 Singapore Judo Open in Singapore on September 3, Davaoeno Sambo Practioner Sydney Sy Tancontian is hoping to add more glory to her hometown and the Philippines in general when she competes in the tough FISU University World Cup Combat Sports in Samsun, Turkey on September 21.

Pilipinas Sambo President Paolo Tancontian is hopeful her eldest child can reap medals and bring more pride to our country.

Tancontian took the gold medal earlier in Singapore's women’s heavyweight division.

On June 4 in Jouneih, Lebanon, Tancontian also won a gold medal in the 2022 Asian Sambo Championships.

In the event, Tancontian ruled the +80kg women’s sport sambo event in the tournament, which was participated in by some of the top sambo practitioners in Asia.

The University of Santo Tomas Judo varsity beat Arailym Abenova of Kazakhstan to win the coveted gold in the senior division.

It is the second gold for Tancontian in the same event since she also won the gold in the 2019 Asian Juniors Sambo in Mongolia.

Before the gold medal, Tancontian also won a silver medal at the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Tancontian won second place in the +87kg Women's Kurash on May 11 in the SEA Games. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
