Panaboan teen  reaches Grand Finals of National Age Group Chess Championships
DAVAO CITY—The best junior chess player in region 11 reached the grand finals of the National Age Group Chess Championships.

National Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca, 13 got the slot after finishing second in the semifinals of the same tournament last May 26-29.

Arca is feeling good as of late.

On May 26-27, Arca won the under 14 division of the  Mayor Apsu Cup Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament Balingoan, Misamis Oriental.

Arca scored 5.5 points to win the category.

He won  P3,000 cash and a trophy as prizes.

On May 21-22, Arca also carried Panabo City to a second-place finish in the 2022 Inter-Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championship Zamboanga City.

Arca (Grade 7 student of Panabo City National High School), who plays for board one, led Panabo to the runner-up honor in the team chess tournament in which some of the top chess teams in the Philippines participated.

In chess tournaments, one who plays on board 1 is considered the leader and strongest in the team.

The team, which was also composed of Chin Lim and ad Jayson Salubre won a P30,000 cash prize. 

Arca also won a separate P1,000 for winning the most promising player award. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
