A former track star from the University of Mindanao won a gold medal in the 2022 Philippine Athletics Championship at the Philsports Complex, Pasig City held on April 28.
Sgt. Sonny Wagdos, an enlisted personnel of the Philippine Air Force, won the 5,000 meters run with a time of 15:21.95.
Wagdos, 24, a native of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, also won a bronze medal in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games hosted by the Philippines at the same event.
Wagdos is part of the Philippine contingent in the 2022 SEA Games in Vietnam this year with his latest gold medal.
The PAF personnel is also a BIMP-Eaga Friendship Games double gold medalist.
He started running during his elementary years at the Telaje Elementary School in Tandag, Surigao del Sur, at 12 years old. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
