They have training camps scheduled for Muak Lek, Thailand, in February, someplace in China in August, just before the 19th Asian Games in China, and either Sheffield, England, or Colorado Springs, USA, in November, to prepare for the Olympic qualifying competitions.
Boxing has a history of being a gold mine in international tournaments, with Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Eumir Marcial each taking home a silver and bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
In April, the FPLA Boxing Gym in Antipolo will play host to a multi-nation training camp organized by the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) in anticipation of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.
Boxers are anticipated to compete monthly in various international events in addition to the SEA Games, which will take place in Phnom Penh from May 5 to 17, and the Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, China, from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8.
The ASBC Asian Under-22 Boxing Championships are scheduled to take place in Thailand next month, the Strandja Memorial Tournament will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, in February; the Thailand Open International Tournament will take place in Bangkok in March; the IBA World Men's Boxing Championships will take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in May, the Eindhoven Cup will take place in the Netherlands in June, and the ASBC Asian Clubs Elite Men's and Women's Boxing Championships will take place.
The World Combat Games, the ASBC Asian Schoolboys and Girls Boxing Championships, both in Saudi Arabia in October, the Elorda Cup in Kazakhstan in July, the ASBC Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championships at an unannounced location in August, and The Grandslam by ASBC in China in December 2023.
The PH team also won three golds, one silver, and five bronze medals in the previous SEAG edition in Vietnam last May and one silver and two bronze medals in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
