Sen. Bong Go aids flash flood victims in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental to help in their recovery and rebuilding efforts
Senator Christopher "Bong" Go provided additional assistance to flash flood victims as he dispatched his Malasakit Team in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental, on Tuesday, September 9, to extend much-needed support and help them rebuild.

"Sa mga nasalanta, huwag ho kayong mag-alala. Sabi ko nga sa inyo noon, ang gamit ay nabibili, ang pera ay kikitain, subalit 'yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever. Pangalagaan at ingatan po natin ang buhay at kalusugan ng bawat isa," Go said in his video message.

Go’s Malasakit Team, in coordination with the local government of Don Marcelino, led by Mayor Mark Edward Maruya, collaborated with the national government so that the beneficiaries could avail of post-disaster shelter assistance for households with totally damaged houses to help them rebuild, through a program which the senator advocated for.

“Itong post-disaster shelter assistance ay para matiyak ang mabilis at epektibong ayuda para sa mga pamilyang apektado ng natural calamities. May tatlong phases ang programa: emergency response, early recovery, and rehabilitation and recovery,” Go explained.

Held at Don Marcelino Evacuation Center, a total of 69 flash flood victims were aided with food packs, shirts, and fans. Select recipients also received pens, basketballs and volleyballs, caps, watches, and shoes.

“Mga kababayan ko, huwag kayong magpasalamat sa akin. Trabaho ko po ang tumulong sa inyo sa abot ng aking makakaya… kami po ang dapat magpasalamat sa inyo dahil nabigyan kami ng pagkakataon na magserbisyo sa inyong lahat,” he expressed.

Additionally, Go highlighted the newly enacted Republic Act No. 12076, also known as the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act. Signed on December 6, 2024, this law mandates the establishment of permanent, safe, and well-equipped evacuation centers across all cities and municipalities in the country. As the principal author and co-sponsor of the legislation, Senator Go emphasized how these centers will safeguard the dignity and well-being of disaster-affected communities while accelerating recovery efforts.

Furthermore, Go is also pushing for the passage of Senate Bill No. 415, or the proposed Rental Housing Subsidy Program, which he refiled at the start of the 20th Congress. The measure aims to support displaced families by providing them with rental assistance while they transition to permanent housing following disasters.

Senator Go reassured the public that his efforts—both in and out of the Senate—will always prioritize service to those in need, whether they are struck by calamity or burdened by medical bills.

As Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, and a consistent health reform crusader, Senator Go also encouraged the affected families to take advantage of the Malasakit Centers.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop designed to streamline medical assistance programs from various government agencies, ensuring that Filipinos can access medical assistance to overcome the financial burden of healthcare costs.

Go is the principal author and sponsor of RA 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program.  Currently, 167 Malasakit Centers operate nationwide, assisting patients with their medical expenses. According to the Department of Health, the program has provided aid to over 17 million Filipinos.

“Bilang inyong Mr. Malasakit na ang tanging bisyo ay magserbisyo, uunahin ko palagi ang kapakanan at buhay ng aking kapwa Pilipino. Minsan lang tayong dadaan sa mundong ito. Kaya anumang kabutihan at tulong ang puwede nating ibigay sa kapwa ay gawin na natin ngayon,” Go ended.
