Dr. Danilo Mangahas, President of Gawad Pilipino Awards, presented the Lingkod Bayan Award 2025 to Go as “Natatanging Senador na Naglilingkod sa Tao at sa Bayan.”
The Gawad Pilipino Lingkod Bayan Awards 2025 recognize individuals who rise above expectations, who pour heart and purpose into their work, and who embody the true spirit into their work, and who embody the true spirit of excellence, integrity, and selfless service to the country.
In this connection, Go has been guided by his advocacy to strengthen healthcare access in every community, which made him prioritize the establishment of the Malasakit Centers, Super Health Centers, and Regional Specialty Centers.
Senator Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which mandates the establishment of Malasakit Centers in all Department of Health-run hospitals.
Malasakit Centers serve as one-stop shops for medical assistance programs. To date, 167 Malasakit Centers are operating nationwide with more than 17 million Filipinos benefiting from this initiative.
Also, Senator Go actively supported the establishment of Super Health Centers nationwide, aiming to improve health services in the grassroots. To date, over 700 Super Health Centers have been funded nationwide.
The Super Health Centers serve as a middle ground between a polyclinic and a rural health unit. They offer a range of services, including the Konsulta package, laboratory testing, birthing facilities, outpatient care, dental services, and a pharmacy, among others.
Further, Go is one of the authors and the principal sponsor of RA 11959, which mandates the establishment of Regional Specialty Centers within existing DOH regional hospitals. This law seeks to reduce the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances to access advanced healthcare services.
The Regional Specialty Centers will provide a wide range of services including cardiovascular care, renal care and transplant services, lung care, cancer treatment, brain and spine care, neonatal care, burn treatment, geriatric care, trauma care, eye care, mental health services, dermatological care, toxicology, orthopedic center, physical rehabilitation medicine, and treatment of infectious diseases and tropical medicine.
Meanwhile, the senator took the occasion to commend his fellow awardees: “Ang bawat isa sa inyo ay patunay na buhay ang diwa ng tunay na paglilingkod-bayan at malasakit sa kapwa.”
He then called on everyone to continue being united in their public service and to demonstrate compassion to help realize a more orderly and humane future.
“Naway magpatuloy pa ang sama-samang paglilingkod at malasakit para sa mas maayos at mas makataong kinabukasan ng ating bayan.”
