NPA squad leader nabbed in Davao Oriental
The military and police conducted a joint intelligence operation that led to the arrest of a squad leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Simulao, Boston, Davao Oriental on Thursday (May 12).

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesman of the 10th Infantry Division identified the arrested NPA member as Cayetano Santos Jr alias "Juning", the squad leader of the Regional Operations Command and Regional Headquarters (ROC/RHQ).

The authorities were able to recover from the suspect a Carbine Rifle, an M1 Garand Rifle, USAS-12 Shotgun, RPG-2 Grenade Launcher, KG-9 Sub-Machine Gun, M16 Rifle, and an Anti-Personnel mine.

According to Tito, Santos went on lie-low status due to his knee condition making him unable to walk long distances, prompting him to leave the armed group at Brgy. Badiangon, Arakan, North Cotabato in 2018. However, he did not surrender to the government forces until he was captured.

Santos was arrested by the 67th Infantry Battalion, 104th Military Intelligence Company, Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office, and the 115th Special Action Company of the PNP Special Action Force under the supervision of the 701st Infantry Brigade.

10th ID commander Major General Nolasco A Mempin commended the troops for their successful conduct of the joint intelligence operation and urged those NPA members who went on lie-low to surrender while they still have a chance.

“You cannot forever stay in your hideout. Surrender now while you still have a chance, don't wait for the government forces to catch you,” Mempin said.
