The Mindanao power grid will be placed on yellow alert from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 23, due to limited power reserves, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP
In its advisory as of 8 a.m. Friday, NGCP reported an available capacity of 2,847 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,661 MW.
The grid has 11 power plants on forced outage, while three others are operating at reduced capacities, resulting in a total of 474.9 MW of unavailable capacity.
The NGCP attributed the yellow alert declaration to the planned outages of GNPK Unit 4 and TSI Unit 2, as well as the unplanned outages of TSI Unit 1 and Pulangi 4 Unit 2.
A yellow alert is declared when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the grid's required contingency reserve.
The advisory did not indicate a specific power interruption schedule. A yellow alert, by itself, does not necessarily mean rotating brownouts will occur.
