The truck combines high-pressure jetting and vacuum suction to loosen hardened sludge, sand, and debris, resulting in speedier canal clearing and floodwater receding after strong rains that manual rodding cannot manage.
Paul Bermejo Head of Ancillary Services Unit (ASU) told the City Information Office (CIO) that the new equipment will be a game-changer in addressing overflow problems in closed canals, which often cause water to stagnate along the city’s streets.
“Sa mga close canal nga usahay dili makaya sa manual rodding kay kung gahi na gani to wala na sila'y mahimo, dili na sila maka proceed unlike nga naa ta'y ing-ana nga equipment kay pasiritan ra og tubig mahumok siya, og mahumok, mao to'y pagsuyop pod sa mga sludge nga nabilin didtoa sa sulod sa drainage system (Sometimes manual rodding is insufficient in blocked canals, and if it's already hardened, they cannot proceed, unlike with this equipment, we only need to spray water to soften it and remove the remaining sludge from the drainage system when it softens),” he said.
Bermejo also emphasized that the truck directly responds to recurring complaints from residents that floodwaters linger long after rainfall.
“Dako kaayo ni siya nga tabang sa siyudad tungod kay kung mano manohon nato, naay possibilidad nga dili siya masulbad pero, kung gamiton nato nang vacuum jetting truck dali lang siya kay in first place kung gahi na didto sa sulod ang mga sludge, mga debris, mga lapok or balas pwede na niya pasiritan. So naa na siyay jetting, mao tung musirit. Unya ang vacuum mao to mu suck sa mga sludge nga naa sa sulod sa drainage system. Dali lang siya mahinloan (This is very beneficial to the city because, in the first place, if the sludge, debris, dirt, or sand inside is already hard, the vacuum jetting truck can spray it out. If we do it manually, there's a chance it won't be resolved. The sludge inside the drainage system is then drawn up by the vacuum and is simple to clean),” he added.
Davao City underscored that the vacuum jetting truck is more than just an equipment but a commitment to ensuring a clean and effective drainage system, which will provide Dabawenyos with safer roads. CIO
