Davao City’s emergency lifeline grew stronger as the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO)-Central 911 formally welcomed its newest batch of responders during the graduation and pinning rites for the Law Enforcement, Communications, and Research Division (LECRD)-Central 911 trainees on January 27, 2026.

The ceremony marked the completion of intensive training for emergency medical services (EMS) personnel and the official recognition of newly certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), who passed rigorous trainings and assessments to become full-fledged responders.

Ret. PLtCol. Alfredo D. Baloran, head of CDRRMO, reminded the graduates of the weight of their mission, stressing that emergency response is not just a profession but a calling to preserve life.

“Ang trabaho nang EMS is hindi lang ito laro-laro, hindi ito basta-basta na trabaho. Tayo ang responders from the scene to the hospitals, we are extending life. Very crucial. Ang trabaho niyo is very noble job (The work of EMS is not a child's play, it's not a simple job. We are the responders from the scene to the hospitals, we are extending life. Very crucial. Your work is a very noble job),” he said.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte, through a message delivered by Councilor Alberto Ungab, lauded the graduates dedication to service and their role in safeguarding lives urging them to continue working hand in hand with the community to ensure the safety of Davao City.

“Saludo kami sainyong dedikasyon, dili lamang sa pag pa lambo sa atong emergency medical service apan usab kay tungod kay nahimo kamong kabahin sa pag reserbar sa mga kinabuhi. Hinaot nga padayon kitang mag tinabangay, alang sa kaluwasan sa atung komunidad og kaayohan sa atong dakbayan. Karon og sa mga umaabot nga mga katuigan (We salute your dedication, not only in improving our emergency medical service but also because you have become a part of saving lives. May we continue to help each other, for the safety of our community and the good of our city now and in the coming years),” he added.

Baloran emphasized that the graduates will be deployed to strengthen the city’s emergency response capacity, while more training batches are set to begin in February.

The CDRRMO also revealed that recruitment is ongoing not only for EMS but also for Urban Search and Rescue teams, fire brigade personnel, and emergency call dispatchers. CIO
