378 Barangay Police in Santo Tomas get P2K cash aid
DAVAO CITY—A total of 378 Barangay Police Laban sa Krimen (BPLKs) from 19 barangays in the Municipality of Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte have received a cash assistance of P2,000 from the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte led by Governor Edwin Jubahib.

This is after the Governor and Mayor Ernesto Evangelista vowed a quick delivery of assistance to the barangay frontline workers.

Evangelista in a statement said the government’s cash assistance amid the COVID-19 pandemic is in appreciation of their vital role in helping the authorities keep the peace in their barangays and help enforce the COVID-19 health protocols.

“Kining P2,000 na gidawat nila usa kini paghatag og appreciation sa ilang kahago ug paningkamot na mahimong hapsay ug malinawon ang ilang mga komunidad. Labaw sa tanan, ang mga BPLKs ang nahimong frontliners diha sa atong mga barangay ilabi na sa pag-implement sa atong mga health protocol,” he said.

The cash aid for all BPLKs in Davao del Norte was made possible through a Provincial Ordinance authored by Davao del Norte Board Member Dindo Parangan.

Evangelista said he thanked Parangan for taking the initiative to legislate the cash aid that will be given yearly to all BPLKs in Davao del Norte.

He also thanked Jubahib for implementing the said ordinance which could benefit all the BPLKs in Davao del Norte as it compensates the efforts and selfless services of these barangay tanods.

Cash aid for BPLKs

For 2022, Evangelista said he is asking the Sangguniang Bayan of Santo Tomas for an ordinance that would grant a yearly cash incentive for all BPLKs. The  cash incentive will be given every December of the current year.

The mayor said he proposed this to ensure that barangays tanods will persevere and maintain the peace and order of their barangays.

Association of Barangay Captains President and Punong Barangay of Tibal-og Ricky Inodioan also expressed support for the passage of the said ordinance, saying it will boost the performance of the BPLKs especially in the enforcement of the laws, and health protocols amid the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Evangelista said that he is in talks with Jubahib for the quick delivery of services and implementation of various projects and programs intended for the BPLKs in Santo Tomas.
