Personnel from the two offices have been distributing packed dinner meals to around 460 affected families staying in temporary shelters following the fire that hit Purok 4D–Mini Forest and Purok 5–Isla Verde on Friday night, May 8.
Relief operations began on Saturday, May 9, and are scheduled to continue until Wednesday, May 13, while authorities complete the assessment and validation of the total number of affected residents.
Based on the latest figures from local authorities as of May 11, at least 460 families or 1,356 individuals were affected by the incident, although validation by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) remains ongoing.
The fire reportedly started at around 8 p.m. in the densely populated coastal residential area and quickly escalated to a fourth alarm as firefighters struggled to contain the blaze.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the flames spread rapidly because many of the houses in the area were constructed using light materials.
Displaced residents were temporarily evacuated to a covered court and nearby evacuation areas as emergency responders conducted rescue and containment operations.
Initial reports from the BFP-Davao Region showed that around 150 houses were destroyed by the fire, leaving hundreds of families homeless.
A 38-year-old man sustained second-degree burns during the incident and was immediately given medical attention.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The offices of Rep. Duterte and Vice Mayor Duterte said they would continue extending assistance to affected residents and reaffirmed their commitment to helping Davaoeños affected by calamities, especially displaced families and marginalized communities.
