Sara hopes COVID-19 cases to remain low in Davao City
Mayor Sara Duterte said she hopes the city will continue to keep its low COVID-19 cases with the extended Alert Level 1 classification from May 16 to May 31after local campaign rallies and the national and local elections.

Sara during her Special Hours Program aired over Davao City Disaster Radio Monday afternoon (May 16) said that the city’s COVID-19 cases remain very low.

“We do hope that it will continue to be that way,” the outgoing mayor said .

Currently, the city has 14 active COVID-19 cases, of which 12 are asymptomatic while one is a moderate case and another is a severe case.

The presumptive vice president said she is optimistic that the moderate and severe cases will be taken cared of by the hospitals.

“I think my fearless forecast is that our low COVID-19 cases will continue. If it would increase, it would mostly be asymptomatic and mild cases,” she said.

Sara, however said the low COVID-19th cases may have made Dabawenyos complacent as manifested by the low turnout of the city's booster vaccination rollout.

The City Information Office (CIO) in its report said the city logged a total of 1,33,0176 first dose vaccinations and 1,312,211 second doses or fully vaccinated individuals, as of May 13.

Of the 1,312,211 who received the two primary doses, only 254,679 got their first booster jabs and only 2,805 individuals returned at the vaccination hubs for their second booster shots.

"My assessment of people's behavior is that they don't have the sense of urgency as they are not seeing deaths. COVID-19 cases are not increasing,” Duterte further said.

According to her, the city will continue its mobile vaccinations to reach more far-flung barangays whose residents, she said, still do not receive any dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine.
