In a statement on Sunday, Municipal Information Officer Mart Sambalud said their administrator lawyer Elisa Evangelista and the personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Responder Ni Tomas went to Surigao to extend help and technical assistance to Surigao City’s City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
Sambalud said that on December 17, Santo Tomas Mayor Ernesto Evangelista met with Surigao City Mayor Ernesto T. Matugas and the CDRRMO staff to personally give them an update about the situation on the ground with officials unable to determine the extent of damage due to the outages.
He said power supply and telecommunication lines were lost as early as Friday afternoon after strong winds and rains unleashed by Typhoon “Odette” battered power transmission and distribution facilities and caused multiple fibre cable cuts, leaving Surigao provinces virtually disconnected.
Sambalud said the Santo Tomas government’s MDRRMO and Responder ni Tomas personnel extended help in clearing impassable roads to fallen structures and debris in the affected areas. (BY ARMANDO FENEQUITO)
