In a press conference at the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) headquarters Wednesday, the regional police director, Brigadier General Benjamin Silo Jr. said they are now ready to implement their coordinated security plan.
Silo said the PNP national headquarters already approved the security plan submitted by the newly created Task Group Site Davao .
Silo said the police and its military counterpart will strictly enforce the gun ban in the whole Davao Region, and strict border checkpoints.
On Wednesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced the suspension of the permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) effective June 16 to midnight of June in the entire Davao Region to ensure the safety and security of the public during the inauguration.
“I would like to inform the public that the suspension applies to the whole Davao Region not only to Davao City,” Silo said.
Silo underscored the importance of the implementation of the gun ban to ensure the peaceful inauguration of the 15th Vice-President of the Republic of the Philippines.
Silo also assured that it will implement all the prohibitions incorporated in various ordinances inacted in the city such as the use of drones which will be strictly prohibited during the event.
Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) head Angel Sumagaysay said all city ordinances pertaining to peace and order will be implemented at all times.
Sumagaysay cited some of these ordinances to be enforced during this major event such as the no backpacks, pointed objects, transparent bottled water, and wearing of jackets are not allowed in the event area.
However, he said they will allow food vendors to display their products in the authorized area within the vicinity.
Colonel Alberto Lupaz, the city director, for his part, said that stricter security protocols have been laid down to the residents who will witness the event to maintain the peace and order.
Lupaz said they are expecting more or less 25,000 individuals from all over the Philippines to attend the oathtaking.
He said attendees should expect a tight inspection upon entry to the venue.
“There will be four entrances for the general public where participants will be checked by the security forces,” he said.
Meanwhile, Silo said the security cluster has so far not monitored any serious threats to the upcoming event.
